Jiffy Lube offers free catalytic converter engraving in Indiana

To help combat the trend of catalytic converter theft, Hoosiers can get the last eight digits of their automobile's vehicle identification numbers (VIN) engraved on the devices for free at Jiffy Lube of Indiana stores.

The chain has more than 50 locally owned and operated stores in the state participating in its Catalytic Converter Identification Initiative.

Technicians also will add a stripe of high-temp paint on each catalytic converter, which adds an extra layer of protection to any vehicle.

While Jiffy Lube had offered the service for free during limited periods in the past, it’s now a permanent offering in the state of Indiana.

From 2020-22, the National Insurance Crime Bureau reports that catalytic converter thefts have risen over 238% from 16,660 to 64,701 nationwide.
